Roth IRA Rollovers

Filed in Retirement, Tax Law by on September 9, 2009

IRS clarifies tax consequences of qualified plan to Roth IRA rollovers.  A new Notice clarifies the consequences of rollovers from eligible employer plans to Roth IRAs. In essence, the rules depend on whether or not the distribution is made form a designated Roth account. The Notice also clarifies that a pre-2010 qualified plan distribution that can’t be rolled over to a Roth IRA may be rolled over into a regular IRA and then converted to a Roth IRA after 2009.
